Description

Role:
To coordinate the daily activities and services of both the Comprehensive Learning Center (CLC) and the Out-of-Class Testing Center by assuring that appropriate academic support is available to all GCCC enrolled students.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Manage CLC:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule, and supervise all paraprofessional and work study tutors.
  • Organize and provide training for all tutors on campus (CLC, TRIO Student Support Services, and the Communication Center).
  • Maintain CLC’s certification with the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) by developing instructional materials and conducting tutor training.
  • Offer classroom presentations as needed.
  • Evaluate CLC services, analyze statistical data, and implement changes as needed.
  • Monitor CLC budget and purchase necessary supplies.
  • Tutor in areas of expertise when possible. Model effective tutoring strategies.

Manage Out-of-Class Testing Center:

  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, schedule and supervise Test Proctors.
  • Communicate any Test Irregularity Reports with faculty.
  • Conduct periodic evaluation of the Out-of-Class Testing Center’s services and implement changes as needed.

Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Library Services to establish short and long term goals for the CLC and Out-of-Class Testing Center. Develop and implement internal policies and procedures.
  • Inform GCCC faculty and students of CLC services. Stay abreast of best practices for Learning and Testing Centers.
  • Performs other duties as needed or requested; participates on college committees as assigned.

Performance Measurements:

  1. Responsible for development and implementation of proven Learning Center practices.
  2. Develop and maintain training program so all staff members are professionally certified.
  3. Ensure that policies and procedures are followed.
  4. Develop and establish professional, effective, and friendly environments for all Library/CLC patrons.
  5. Work independently under the supervision of the Director of Library Services.


Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:
Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience.

Education: A Bachelor's degree.

Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Other Skills: Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Computer literacy is required.

Physical Requirements: Ability to stand and sit for extended periods; speak and hear clearly in group settings and at distances of 30 feet; maintain physical mobility, alertness, and composure; utilize appropriate presentation materials and equipment; and transport self and equipment to various campus/community/area sites as needed.
