SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Route Driver delivers tooling, parts, and other materials between KMC’s multiple facilities on a daily basis, based off of a predetermined schedule. The position would also assist in loading/unloading material onto or from pallets, trays, shelves, or trucks. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time. 

  • Drives vehicle to destinations according to daily schedule to deliver tooling, parts, and other materials to KMC’s multiple facility sites and other predetermined locations.
  • Responsible for inspecting vehicle for defects before and after trips, reporting discrepancies to supervisor, as well as performing some preventative maintenance tasks on the vehicle. 
  • Loads, unloads, inspects, and operates the vehicle in accordance with work instructions, DOT regulations, and other documentation in a safe and effective manner. 
  • Prepares materials for delivery which may include banding and wrapping of palletized parts, dies, tools, and other equipment as necessary.
  • Verifies quantity, size, part numbers, and other required information to ensure materials are identified properly.
  • Maintains and ensures vehicle’s cleanliness.
  • Completes required paperwork, records and prepares shipping documents.  
  • Adheres to all KMC and OSHA safety related work rules and procedures. 
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Prior experience operating forklifts, straight, and box trucks preferred.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles and forklifts in a variety of weather and traffic conditions.
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Possess effective time management and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to read, write, comprehend instructions and shipping documents. Ability to prepare job related paperwork. 
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other employees throughout the organization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms.   The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
