Position Synopsis:

The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides supportive personal care services to participants of Elderhaus, ensuring their comfort, dignity, and well‑being. This role assists participants with daily living needs, monitors their safety, supports activity engagement, and helps maintain a clean and orderly environment. The PCA works under the direction of supervisory nursing and day center staff while adhering to infection control practices and complying with all federal and state regulations.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide personal care support as outlined in each participant’s care plan, including bathing, grooming, dressing, mouth care, toileting, hair and skin care, mobility assistance, and other activities of daily living.
  • Assist participants with meal preparation, encourage safe eating habits, and support nutritional needs as appropriate (excluding total feeding assistance).
  • Maintain clean and orderly personal care areas, day rooms, kitchens, and other shared areas, including performing or assisting with laundry.
  • Participate in group and one-on-one activities in accordance with the daily activity calendar, helping promote engagement, socialization, and emotional well-being.
  • Observe and report changes in participants’ physical, emotional, or cognitive status to appropriate Elderhaus staff promptly, ensuring accurate documentation and adherence to reporting requirements.
  • Maintain participant confidentiality, uphold participant rights, and contribute to a respectful, dignified care environment.

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • One year of experience providing care for elderly adults preferred.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Has completed a course in delivery of personal care services desired OR has one year experience in a health care setting.
