Position    :Patient Care Assistant (Clinical Assistant)

Rank         :Patient Care Assistant II

Cluster     :New Territories East Cluster
Pay           :HK$21,739 - 24,701 per month

Up to 5% of total basic salary as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff upon completion of the contract subject to satisfactory performance.
 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform the following core duties for patients:

(a) blood-taking and related duties which include taking blood specimen and preparing blood specimen labels/blood-taking materials, blood culture, blood taking for Pediatric patients, blood glucose analysis using blood glucose meter etc.

(b) ECG for patients and related duties.

(c) Intravenous (IV) cannulation insertion and assessing the appropriate IV site.

(d) taking care and monitoring patients' condition while performing the blood-taking, ECG or IV process and reporting to senior in case of abnormal situations.

(e) preparing, cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing blood taking equipment, ECG machine, drug trolley and equipment in the ward/department.

(f) ensuring adequate and appropriate equipment for blood taking, ECG and IV cannulation.

(g) preparing specimen label under nurse guidance/direction and delivering/ collecting specimen sample/result from laboratory/Pathology Department; and

(h) conducting routine quality check of the POCT equipment and assisting patients in performing POCT test.

  1. Perform other direct/in-direct patient care related duties depending on the working unit/department which include:

(a) assisting patients during medical check and other medical treatment procedures.

(b) checking patient's condition including measuring blood pressure, height and weight, urine test, etc.

(c) handling clinical waste and patient transport.

(d) operating necessary equipment that required to perform the supporting services.

(e) assisting in stock taking, collecting materials in ward, laboratory container, sterilizer and gauze, etc; and

(f) handling other clerical support duties, e.g. filling of laboratory reports, data entry etc.

  1. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Entry Requirements:

  1. Completed F.5/ S.5 or equivalent (see Remark 4);
  2. Holder of Corporate Patient Care Assistant (Clinical Assistant) ["PCA(CA)"] Training Program certificate which includes blood-taking, ECG and IV Cannulation training organized by Hospital Authority (HA) (see Remark 2); and
  3. Good command of written Chinese, fluent spoken Cantonese and able to understand simple English.

Preferred Attributes/Exposure:

  1. Holder of Health Care Assistant or Care-related Support Workers (CRSW) certificate (see Remark 3);
  2. Possess relevant working experience and/or training in hospital or health care institution;
  3. Responsible, able to work independently and with good interpersonal skills.

The selected candidates will be required to attend Corporate PCA(CA) Training Program, complete the requisite assessments and tests. If the appointees cannot complete the PCA(CA) training and passed the assessments/tests, their employment with the Hospital Authority may be terminated.

  1. Serving staff who completed F.3 / S.3 with at least 2 years' care-related experience may also apply. Candidates who have completed the JUMP program organized by Hospital Authority are considered to have attained F.3/S.3 level.
