Responsible for providing academic support such as tutoring and review sessions, and participating in outreach efforts to promote use of the Academic Support Center.
Characteristic Duties:
Provides equitable, attentive academic support in STEM-based subject(s) to students, both individually and in group settings, online and in person.
Assists students in developing appropriate learning and college success skills.
Facilitates special programs such as workshops, review sessions, or individualized tutoring sessions for students.
Assists area coordinator in developing tutoring schedules for area of responsibility.
Collaborates with academic support staff to identify, research, and/or develop supplemental learning materials to support online students in response to emerging needs and best practices in the academic support field.
Participates in ASC-facilitated trainings, professional development, special events, outreach programs, and other activities or meetings as required.
Assists in mentoring and support of professional and student tutoring staff.
Delivers marketing materials and organizes and conducts outreach activities, including classroom visits, and participates in other events to advertise academic support services.
Helps enforce student sign-in/sign-out procedures to ensure accurate data collection.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Flexible scheduling required.
Equipment/Tools Used:
Utilizes standard office and classroom equipment, including computers and advanced calculators, in order to perform the duties of the job.
Supervision:
Under the general supervision of the Academic Support Manager, receives oral and written instructions as needed for special assignments.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or other STEM-related field is required. Expertise and/or coursework in more than one STEM-based discipline such as physics, chemistry, biology or statistics is preferred.
Experience: Minimum two years’ experience in teaching and/or tutoring within a college or academic resource setting is required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Evidence of work experience with a diverse student population. Demonstrated commitment to intercultural knowledge and competence. Knowledge of and experience in utilizing instructional technology and online forms of academic support is strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office products, i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
