Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Transportation Supervisor, the Fixed Route Driver is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and on-time delivery of passengers through the operation of a public transportation vehicle. The Transit Driver will follow a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers, collect fares and answer questions about the bus route. Communicates with the dispatcher during the route; provides updates to the dispatcher and reports emergencies, traffic patterns, incidents or accidents.

Essential Functions

  • Completes pre and post-trip bus inspections and prepares reports at the end of shift
  • Obey traffic laws, safety procedures, and transit regulations
  • Safely complete bus route on schedule
  • Pick up and drop off passengers at designated locations
  • Assist the disabled and elderly with embarking and disembarking as needed
  • Assist with stowing luggage and bicycles
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary bus at all times
  • Immediately reports any mechanical issues with the bus such as brakes, steering, electrical, etc.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Experience

  • Two (2) years of experience in public transportation or relevant experience
  • Experience in the operation of transportation vehicles larger than 16-passenger capacity
  • Experience in the operation of ADA-accessible buses
  • Customer Service experience

Preferred

  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

License/Certification

  • Must have a valid Alaska State Class B CDL driver's license with passenger endorsement, no airbrake restrictions, and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • Must be at least 25 years of age to be insurable under the Tribe's policy
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification, or within 90 days of hire
  • MANDT certified, or within 90 days of hire
  • Obtain defensive driving within 90 days of hire
